People who complain about iPage do often have valid complaints.

The most common complaint is with transparency of pricing. Continuing on with iPage, other common complaints include…

  • Their sites may load slowly
  • Technical support is not very communicative and makes mistakes, sometimes forgetting to reply to your ticket. This is because they outsource the 1st tier of their support to India. Tip: if you want better support people, call the number on their homepage or email iPage at support(at) That will connect you directly to actual support engineers rather than ticket submitters.
  • They charge low introductory prices but the renewals are usually around $10/month. Many customers don’t realize the $1.99/month is an introductory price only valid for the first year of service.
  • They charge a processing fee for refunds. So yes, you can get your money back with their money back guarantee, but they will take a processing fee out of it. I think last I heard it was $15 or so.

Now, I don’t meant to single out iPage here. They are not the only web hosting company who does this. In fact, there are hundreds of other hosting providers who all give similar levels of service, have similar policies and have similar complaints.

iPage is a trusted company with over 10 years worth of web hosting service and experience. It is counted as one of the best and most popular web hosting service in the internet. Most of the reviews given by customers are generally favourable. However, try as it may no company can please each and every consumer. There certainly are users who have less than stellar things to say about iPage.

Let us try and learn from their complaints and see if what they say about iPage is true. Just remember that reviews can sometimes be biased and have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Users commonly complain that iPage’s software, such as Drupal and Joomla, are not performing as well as advertised. More advanced users omplain that iPage is somewhat lacking in features such as SSH and It is important to note that iPage is created for beginners and most of the missing features will not be needed by first timers. As you can see in my review of iPage, this isn’t an issue for 95% of people who don’t enjoy staring at a black screen with white text, messing with weird commands (SSH console).



Users complain that iPage’s email client and servers are slow, even if they themselves are using high end hardware. Also, they note that the web host have a lacklustre uptime which is alarming if your business depends on continuous web presence. To be fair every server experiences downtime and iPage immediately addresses the issue. iPage is currently investing in additional hardware to speed up hosting and prevent downtimes.



One of the things that usually irk users is the difficulty in contacting customer support and if you are able to get through sometimes they place you on hold for as long as 20 minutes. And even if you use the live chat support service they are just usually given various links where they are unceremoniously bounced about.



Some users report that the tech support representative seems to have a general lack of knowledge in resolving their problems or fixing errors. .Others even complains that the tech representative even has to ask them what company they are calling for. This is alarming for businesses because it adds to the time that their websites are not visible in web.



According to users when you sign for iPage you are given several payment options but nowhere in that page will you find that you can pay on a month to month basis. You have to pay for a full 1, 2 or 3 years depending on the service you chose. On the other hand, you do get your money back any time you choose to discontinue you service. No questions ask. This means that if you signed up for 1 year but decided to end the contract in 3 months, you do get a refund for the remaining seven months that you paid upfront. iPage is a purely shared hosting service. You have to remember that iPage is designed for small businesses and first time users, so shared hosting is more than enough for their needs.     I am in this web hosting for nearly 20 years,
    and from 7 years of ixwebhosting terrible service,
    I didnt thought I can find worse service.

    there has been unlimited problems constantly which one of them is without warning closing whole account becuase of a web site script,
    then worse loosing all my main email inbox
    was the last drop.
    ipage has got worse service so far in my 20 years experience.
    You cant even find a desk to complaint about their helpdesk service.
    avoid all all cost.

    My site takes anywhere from 5 – 15 seconds to load. I thought this was bad so was stupid enough to fall for the option of going Word Press Premium – don’t do this! Your site loads slower and it costs an extra £43.70 per year. Ipage say – ‘oh it loads fine’ yes, after about twenty seconds everything is hunky dory…so why charge me more money for worse performance? Steer clear of these web hosts!

    I migrated to ipage from ifastnes. I have been repenting since day one. Ipage is the worst host. I would never recommend it to anyone. Ipage home page returns 404 errors. I wanted to set domain pointer in ipage. I could not do it even after four hours of continuous tries. Every page returns error. I may withdraw from ipage service any time. The domain registered by ipage does not have privacy feature.

    I have been trying for three days to activate a webpage with iPage…and I will wait no longer. Their website advertises that calls for customer service are answered in two minutes…I waited on hold last night for over two hours…even their chat feature appears to be broken, telling me that my email address is incorrect. Really? If I had to guess, I would say they are seriously understaffed, undertrained, disinterested in my business, simply unprofessional, or a combination of all of the above. Regardless, I won’t be trusting them to help me start my business.

    iPage is truly inferior to GoDaddy when it comes to support. When I have to call them, I need to set aside two hours to just deal with the long waits and responses. They suck!

    I am new to ipage. Can someone explain to me how to sent and receive text messages using mysql on ipage? I have the database set up already and have an idea about sms gateways, but that’s all I know.

    I use ipage to provide an online access for my dev work to my clients.
    the page load time “sometimes” are okay, majority of the time its a pain. its just been over a month and i’m very dissatisfied by they slow speeds and random server crashes (which should happen so often).

    Support was kind of nice and responsive ; however , for multiple times : After my request, seing a problem was resolved BEFORE they finally answer there was none (?!?) …is like a bit annoying : Not the worst case scenario, as at least probems were resolved, but still… 😛

    They are the cheapest, and for that price, this is OK
    However, indeed, the servers are very slow and pages take too much time to load ; the very worst is about smtp : I wrote some PHP stuff for password revovery on my website and more than 1 time on 2 it just fails ( the other time, it takes more than an hour to be sent !!! )

    The exact same code on another server (OVH) just works like a charm with 100% emails sent and received immediately.
    On that point they just suck a lot (2014.12)
    Note I am not making promotion for OVH :
    These ones have also their own fail ( stupid PHPmyAdmin version, etc… )
    I just warn anyone who need a serious email system : Just avoid iPage as for now 🙁

    Servers are so slow you can go get coffee in between when trying to load edited pages off the Press dashboard. very frustrating

    I have been with Ipage for 5 years. Not once have I ever had a problem with speed, page loading or services that I paid for not rendered.
    I would with out a doubt recommend anyone to use Ipage as their web hosting company.
    Their customer service has been nothing but stellar with my programming issues.
    And most important of all, you simply can not beat the prices they offer. Sometimes I think the negative bloggers come from their competition.
    Anyways I was not paid for this endorsement nor was I even asked to do this.

    I am currently with them, and I am beginning to lose my temper with them, I can’t stand them one whatsoever, their tech support sucks, they asked me to “elaborate” on the tech matter that was so simple for them. Another problem is that their server is so slow in updating anything

    I also asked them for the reason why they kept a backup copy for all my files, I am still waiting for a reply from them

    I’ve been with iPage for several years without complaint. But, all of a sudden my email is not getting delivered…. Its taking 2 to 6 hours for level 2 tech support to respond to a ticket update. Sometime over the weekend someone changed my email forwarding to a gmail account and no one can explain why. Nor can anyone find my email from the weekend. The guy on the phone was super helpful, but his abilities were certainly limited…… ugh.

    First of all, ipage is AMAZING! I have had AWESOME customer service, in fact they called me personally the day after I bought my website domain. They called to make sure I had no problems with the order and then they assigned a young man in their tech support to me. I can call him to help me design my page, like ALL day. I knew nothing but this guy walked me through it all.

    You get 6 pages free….by free I mean i paid around 10-15 bucks for the site name and then 6 pages were/are free. If you need more than 6 pages its STILL less to upgrade to premium hosting than it is even to use wordpress (18$ for a wordpress hosted domain is a lie, they don’t tell you that they up’ed the price at wordpress to 99 bucks! ipage sells you the domain for less AND you get free hosting for 6 pages)

    I haven’t even needed all of the 6 pages yet lol so I dont care about that. If I need more i’ll gladly buy a premium hosting plan which is still less than every other site with this many tools that i have found. WordPress charges MORE and has WAY less features. I know, I own which (sadly) wordpress hosts. Oh well…live and learn. WordPress is better for the free sites. The prefab blogs and such. I love ipage so much that I know own 3 website domains which they host! I will never go anywhere else.

    I have used several domain hosting sites in the past, but IPAGE offers EXTENSIVE website building platforms, tools and services. Mine even has a built in SITE MAP and its made to work with Google webmaster tools so everything integrates perfectly. ipage offers the Weebly site building tool and their customer service is so awesome that in TEN minutes I had my sitemap, header codes and meta codes for Googlesearch inclusion! If customer service gets any better than that, I don’t know how. I freaking love this ipage host and i seriously recommend them.

    Also, the first time I bought a site through them I was really tired and bought the wrong name. I called them and they refunded me all of my money within 3 days. Not even a question asked. They understood. I seriously, seriously love this hosting company.

    I decided to try them out my experince with them has been less than stellar within a month the server was down overnight and all my files had to be reloaded from their backup one of the websites that wa backed up from them would no longer accept upgrades to Joomla they tried to correct it for me but it seems they tried to reload the full version of Joomla overtop of my installation the result was a broken website. Since then I have made a point to install backup softwre for joomla on every website hosted there as I do not trust their backups. Thier control panel SUCKS its go to be the worst control panel on the market as to why they don’t use industry standard cPANEL is beyond me. On the bright side they are cheap to host with and supposedly offer a refund for time not used. I am considering doing this as their server are VERY slow and they sometimes lose connectivity to the databases

I’m guessing math isn’t your strong suit, either. I’d like a reliable review. One with spelling, grammar, and math errors doesn’t give me confidence in your information.
