fatcow problems

award reviews testimonials user domain iconLooking for bad FatCow experiences on the web can be quite difficult. This is because most reviews or comments about FatCow are actually positive. In fact, based on findings, only 8 for every 100,000 search hits for FatCow contain negative opinions about this web host. Most of them are simple hosting problems which can be remedied with a simple search for solution online.

A typical example of a FatCow complaint is about slow response time for their websites that uses WordPress blogging software. However, this problem does not only exist in FatCow hosting but is also found in other web hosting providers. There are many factors that can cause a WordPress blog to work slowly, and not all of them are web host-related.

For instance, a WordPress that displays too much web content may really appear slow during run-time. As a content management system, WordPress may require more resources from your site’s browser and putting too much elements may indeed take time for your browsers to load these resources.

Ive now been on hold on their “customer service” line over an hour. This is after TWO of their online service people suddenly just stopped talking.

Although the Support staff for FatCow are advertised as being in the US, most are not, The online chat is based in either India or Mexico, the Phone support staff are american, so far at least.
My experience with FatCow and the support staff has so far been ok, the control panel is nice and easy to navigate and well laid out.
They do however have one major flaw in my opinion, their ability to convert currency, being from the UK my plan was sold in GBP, prices for domain purchase and domain renewal are all in $. no problems though, i just converted it down myself to give a rough idea of what i would pay. WOW was i wrong, it turns out that the amount on screen stays the same, just the currency changes. so for me to purchase two domain names is advertised as $57.98, so that is what i expect to pay, i am charged £57.98 or $90.95 for exactly the same service.
The billing team dont want to know and dont seem to care, this is the first time i have had any problems with them, the response has been shocking so far.

I am back and forth with FatCow. I have accounts with both HostGator and FatCow and although FatCow is slower, their control panel is much easier to use than cPanel. It’s less bloated and easier to navigate because it doesn’t have all of the junk that companies put onto cPanel.

I have some experience with services like CloudFlare in the past, but they are a pain to set up and manage, so I haven’t been using them, even though it would speed up my site.

I can’t deny that FatCows web services are neat… As long as you are prepared to love them forever.
Cancelling your account is a long, expensive and demoralizing experience.
